Noelani Beard was selected CIAA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after a stellar performance at the Mount Olive Invitational over the weekend.
Beard, a graduate student from Kaneohe, Hawaii, averaged 4.08 kills per set on 31.4 percent hitting to lead Shaw to a 4-0 record at the Mount Olive Invitational this past weekend. She also contributed 3.54 digs per set at the event to make the Invitational's All-Tournament team.
Beard recorded three double doubles in kills and digs and nearly had four. She had 16 kills and 12 digs in a three-set win over West Virginia State, 14 kills and 14 digs in a three-set victory over Shepherd and 14 kills and 11 digs in a three-set triumph over Mount Olive, the tournament host. In a four-set win over Newberry, Beard had 9 kills and 9 digs.
In the CIAA, Beard ranks seventh in hitting percentage (.266), eighth in kills per set (2.65) and 10th in points per set (3.09). A preseason All-CIAA pick, Beard has keyed the Lady Bears to a 1-0 CIAA record and 7-2 overall mark heading into Wednesday's home contest against crosstown rival Saint Augustine's at 6 p.m. The Lady Bears have won six straight matches.
