CHARLOTTE, NC --The Shaw volleyball team fired back after an early one-set deficit to secure a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-15) over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Monday on the road at Brayboy Gymnasium.
The conference victory improved Shaw's record to 12-10 overall and 10-6 in CIAA play.
The Lady Bears attack was paced by Makayla Brown, who finished with 22 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .528, and by Leana Gould, who had 11 while hitting .364. got 17 digs from Kalia Morris to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-21. Shaw trailed by as many as nine points as Johnson C. Smith never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up zero times before the Golden Bulls took control.
SET 2 | Shaw responded to pick up a 25-18 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Lady Bears never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased three lead changes before Shaw took over the lead.
SET 3 | Shaw built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a lead at two sets to one. The Lady Bears took the set 25-18. Shaw took the lead for good at 18-17 in a set that featured 13 ties and five lead changes. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Shaw claimed a match win with a 25-15 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set. The Lady Bears grabbed control of the set at 2-1 and never looked back. Shaw led by 12 points at 16-4 before finishing off the stanza.
