FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Shaw University women's volleyball team dropped a competitive four-set match to Fayetteville State University on Thursday evening inside Felton J. Capel Arena. The Lady Bears took the opening set 25-18 before the Broncos rallied to win the next three by scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-22.
Leana Gould led the way for Shaw (11-10, 9-6 CIAA) with 11 kills, seven digs, and one ace. Sydni Hunter and MaKayla Brown each added eight kills, while Khamare Steppe and Cadence Rascoe combined for four total blocks. Setter Justus Alexander recorded 26 assists and 13 digs, and Kalia Morris anchored the back line with a team-high 14 digs.
The Lady Bears started strong, hitting .240 in the first set while taking control early and maintaining momentum throughout the 25-18 win. Fayetteville State (18-4, 14-1 CIAA) responded with steady play over the final three sets to secure the victory.
As a team, Shaw finished with 40 kills, 63 digs, eight service aces, and seven total blocks.
The Lady Bears close out the regular season on Monday, November 10, at Johnson C. Smith University.
