Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Belmont Abbey College Friday evening under the lights at the Alumni Field.
The loss dops the Lady Bears to an 0-1 start as the Crusaders improve to 1-0.
Belmont Abbey scored all three goals in the first half, including a goal in the game's first 4:51 of action that led to a 3-0 lead at intermission. Shaw registered just two shots in the first half compared to the Crusaders 10.
In the second half, the Lady Bears offensive continued to struggle as Shaw accounted for just one shot. Junior Anais Stephany (Sallanches, France) had a team-high two shots while junior Jayana Nicholson recorded the Lady Bears lone shot on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) racked up six saves between the pipes in 90:00 of action.
Up next, the Lady Bears will host William Peace on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the WRAL Soccer Complex for its home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
