Lady Bears Roll Past Bluefield State to End Regular Season

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Shaw University women's soccer team capped the regular season with an impressive 4-1 victory over Bluefield State University on Thursday afternoon at WRAL Soccer Complex.

The Lady Bears (7-4-3, 3-0 CIAA) set the tone early, scoring four goals in the opening half. Abigail Harrison struck first in the eighth minute off a pass from Lorena Gonzalez, before Thea Schillaci doubled the lead in the 22nd minute, also assisted by Gonzalez. Harrison added her second goal of the day in the 43rd minute on a successful penalty kick, and Avril Melilo closed the half with a goal just before halftime to make it 4-0.

Bluefield State (2-10-1, 1-2 CIAA) got on the board late with a goal from Yassin Joof in the 86th minute, but the outcome was never in doubt as Shaw's defense held firm throughout.

Goalkeepers Olivia Ankrom and Kadence Miller combined for five saves in the win, while the Lady Bears outshot the Big Blue 19-9 and earned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Shaw will now turn it's focus to the post-season with the Presidential CIAA Cup held at Virginia State University November 8-9.
