Lady Bears Comeback Comes Up Short Against Lincoln

WILMINGTON, DE --D'Ayzha Akinson, Mikyah Finley and Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes combined to score 59 of Shaw's 78 total points, but the Lady Bears fell to the Lincoln (PA) Lions 89-78 on the road Saturday.

The Lady Bears (5-9, 2-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Akinson, who had 24 points and two steals. Finley added 19 points from the bench and Ross-Barnes helped out with 16 points and two blocks from the bench.

Akinson pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Shaw, grabbing 11 boards and turning them into nine second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 18-12, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 3:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Akinson, to narrow its deficit to 18-17. Lincoln (PA) answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Lady Bears down 24-19 entering the second quarter.

Lincoln (PA) kept adding to that lead, building a 30-23 advantage before Shaw went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Maiya Bumbray, to narrow its deficit to 30-28. Lincoln (PA) responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Lady Bears trailing 51-38 heading into halftime.

Lincoln (PA) continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 58-43 advantage before Shaw went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Akinson, to trim its deficit to 58-50 with 4:33 to go in the third. The Lady Bears continued to reduce the Lincoln (PA) lead, shrinking it to 64-59 by the end of the third quarter. Shaw knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 21 total points.

Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 89-78. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring six of its 19 total points.
