BALTIMORE, MD --D'Ayzha Atkinson and Mikyah Finley combined to score 44 total points, but the Lady Bears fell to the Bluefield State Lady Blues 82-56 at CFG Bank Arena Tuesday.

Atkinson led the Lady Bears (8-17, 6-12) with 28 points and six steals. Finley tacked on 16 points and two steals off of the bench and Leasia Matthews chipped in as well with five points and four steals off the bench.

Led by Mahogany Collins' three offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.

Shaw did a great job disrupting Bluefield State shots in the contest, coming away with nine blocks. Collins' eight rejections led the way individually for the Lady Bears.

How It Happened

Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 25-8 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bears continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-16 halftime deficit.

Bluefield State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 57-18 advantage before Shaw went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 57-24 with 1:36 to go in the third. Bluefield State countered and stretched its lead to 64-29 heading into the fourth. Shaw took advantage of seven Bluefield State turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of takeaways.

Bluefield State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 72-33 advantage before Shaw went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 72-40 with 7:13 to go in the contest. The Lady Bears kept their comeback going, but Bluefield State managed to hold on for the 82-56 win. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 14 of its 27 total points.
