Box Score DURHAM, NC – Shaw University's women's soccer team put up a strong defensive effort but fell short in a 1-0 defeat in their opening match of the 2024 season. Despite their determined play, the Lady Bears were unable to find the back of the net against a resilient Emory &Henry team.
The lone goal of the game came in the 79th minute when Karlijn Keuters scored on a rebound off an initial save from the Lady Bears keeper. Shaw University fought hard to equalize, but their attempts were thwarted by the opposing goalkeeper and defense.
The Wasp edged out the Lady Bears in total shots 6-5 while Shaw held the upper hand on corner kick attempts 5-2. Both starting keepers were credited with second half saves.
Shaw University will look to bounce back in their next match against Carolina University on September 7 at Truist Sports Park in Advance, NC. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
