RALEIGH, NC - The Shaw University Lady Bears softball team displayed some of its best play Tuesday afternoon earning its first win of the season splitting a double header against the St.Andrews University Knights at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
Shaw battled back to force extra innings before dropping the opening contest 7-6 while the Lady Bears dominated the second game 7-1.
Game 1
Shaw jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Knights ran off six straight runs. Down to their last three outs, the Lady Bears put together a rally to tie the score at 6-6 forcing an extra stanza. SAU went ahead with a sacrifice pop fly in the top of the eighth inning making the score 7-6. Shaw would get the tying run to third base with one out but would be unable to score to send the game into another inning falling 7-6.
Game 2
The Lady Bears again struck first with a run in the second inning before the Knights tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. The Shaw offense woke up to bat through the lineup while taking a 6-1 lead. The Lady Bears added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth while their defense carried the load the rest of the way only allowing one base runner for the remainder of the game heading to the 7-1 victory.

Shaw returns to the diamond on March 17 as they travel to Vorhees University. First pitch is slated for 1 PM.
