Softball Drops Pair Against Panthers

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Shaw University softball dropped both games of a CIAA doubleheader at Claflin on Saturday, falling 10-7 in the opener before a 13-0 loss in five innings in the nightcap at the North Road Complex.

In game one, Shaw (6-25, 5-7 CIAA) battled back from an early deficit and surged ahead with a six-run fourth inning. Iona Davis delivered the big hit in the frame with a three-run double, while Cyndia Dobbins added a two-run triple as the Lady Bears built a 7-2 advantage.

Claflin responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs to even the game at 7-7. The Panthers then took control in the sixth, capitalizing on miscues to plate three runs and secure the 10-7 victory.

Dobbins led the way offensively with a triple and two RBI, while Davis finished with three RBI. Dakota Espinoza, Hailey Stanley and Jordan Booker each added hits for Shaw in the loss.

In game two, Claflin carried its momentum into a dominant performance, defeating Shaw 13-0 in five innings. The Panthers broke the game open with a six-run second inning and added to their lead with multi-run frames in the third and fourth.

Shaw was limited to just three hits in the contest, coming from Cyndia Dobbins, Jordan Booker and Sierra Scott.

The Lady Bears return to action May 1 as they host WSSU at Worthdale Park for Senior Day.
