Big games from Radcliff, Quinn not enough in Shaw's 59-44 loss to Fayetteville State

RALEIGH, NC --Alexis Radcliff and Elisha Quinn combined to score 27 total points - 61.4 percent of Shaw's points - but the Lady Bears fell to the Fayetteville State Broncos 59-44 at home Tuesday night inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

Radcliff led the Lady Bears (11-11, 6-7) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Quinn added 10 points from the bench and Madjiguene Pene chipped in as well with five points off of the bench.

Led by Raneem Elbarky's three offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.

The Shaw defense held Fayetteville State shooters to just 33.3 percent from the field, including 13.3 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened

Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Fayetteville State kept adding to that lead, building a 25-12 advantage before Shaw went on an 8-0 run to narrow its deficit to 25-20. Fayetteville State responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Bears trailing 32-20 heading into halftime.

After intermission, Shaw cut its deficit to 37-26 before going on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 37-32 with 1:59 to go in the third. Fayetteville State countered and stretched its lead to 43-33 heading into the fourth. Shaw played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.

Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 59-44. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring six of its 11 total points.
