BOCA RATON, FL --The Shaw women's basketball team kept Lynn to just 40 percent shooting from the field, but fell 74-57 to the Fighting Knights on the road Saturday.
The Lady Bears (4-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Maiya Bumbray, who had 15 points. Elisha Quinn added 10 points and two steals and D'Ayzha Akinson added seven points, six rebounds and two steals.
Akinson pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Shaw, grabbing 21 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.
Shaw's defense held Lynn to only 40 percent shooting from the field.
How It Happened
Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 26-18 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Bears continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 39-24 halftime deficit.
Lynn continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-27 advantage before Shaw went on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a three from Bumbray, to trim its deficit to 43-36 with 4:53 to go in the third. The Lady Bears continued to reduce the Lynn lead, shrinking it to 49-48 by the end of the third quarter. Shaw knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 24 total points.
Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 74-57. Shaw took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its nine points in the paint.
