Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw opened the women's soccer season with a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry at Fred Selfe Stadium in Emory, Va., on Thursday.
The Lady Bears won despite being outshot 15-8, including 10-3 in the second half. Emory & Henry could not score, however, thanks to Shaw goalkeeper
Paige Ellis. She finished with seven saves to keep Emory & Henry (0-1) off the scoreboard.
Johanna Lillja and
Giovanna Coghetto each scored unassisted for the Lady Bears. Lillja scored 12:46 into the game for a 1-0 lead which held up at halftime. Coghetto scored in the second half to give Shaw a two-goal cushion with 6:55 left in the contest.
The Lady Bears make their home debut on Saturday, Sept. 2, against West Virginia Tech in Durham, N.C. Game time is 3 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
