Radcliff, Finley combine to score 34, Shaw falls to Mount Olive 65-53

MOUNT OLIVE, NC --Alexis Radcliff and Mikyah Finley combined to score 34 total points - 64.2 percent of Shaw's points - but the Lady Bears fell to the Mount Olive Trojans 65-53 on the road Tuesday.

The Lady Bears (4-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Radcliff, who had 20 points. Finley added 14 points and Inari Jones added four points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Shaw out-rebounded Mount Olive 35-31 in Tuesday's game, led by Jones' 10 boards. The Bears also collected 13 offensive rebounds and scored 12 second chance points.

The Shaw defense held Mount Olive shooters to just 40 percent from the field. The Trojans did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only six offensive rebounds and scored eight second chance points while Shaw pulled down 22 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After falling behind 7-0, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 8:10 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Finley, to narrow its deficit to 7-5. Mount Olive answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bears down 22-13 entering the second quarter.

Mount Olive kept adding to that lead, building a 34-21 advantage before Shaw went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Finley, to narrow its deficit to 34-27. Mount Olive responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Lady Bears trailing 38-30 heading into halftime.

Shaw's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Bears faced a 56-36 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Shaw turned one offensive rebounds into three second chance points on the way to scoring six total points in the quarter.

Shaw came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Jones' layup, to shrink the deficit to 56-45 with 6:47 to go in the contest. Mount Olive responded and outscored the Lady Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 65-53. Shaw took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.
