PETERSBURG, VA --Alexis Radcliff and Mikyah Finley combined to score 27 total points - 61.4 percent of Shaw's points - but the Lady Bears fell to the Virginia State Trojans 82-44 on the road Monday in their CIAA opener. 

Radcliff led the Lady Bears (4-4, 0-1) with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Finley added eight points from the bench and Ellis helped out with five points and two blocks.

Shaw forced 23 Virginia State turnovers. The Lady Bears turned those takeaways into 21 points on the offensive end of the floor. Lojain Elfatairy led the way individually with three steals.

How It Happened

Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 28-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Virginia State kept adding to that lead, building a 37-18 advantage before Shaw went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Radcliff, to narrow its deficit to 37-25. The Bears continued to chip away, reducing the Virginia State lead to 39-31 heading into the break.

Shaw's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Bears faced a 64-38 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Shaw knocked down one three-pointer in the quarter to score three of its seven total points.

Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 82-44. Shaw took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its six points in the paint.
