DAYTONA BEACH, FL --The Shaw men's basketball team once again got a 41-point performance from the bench, but fell 89-75 to the Embry-Riddle (FL) Eagles on the road Sunday.
The Bears (4-5) had three players score in double figures, led by DJÂ Thomas, who had 18 points, four assists and two steals. Ahmil Flowers added 17 points from the bench and Denari Garrett helped out with 10 points off of the bench.
The Shaw offense looked for help from three-point land, pouring in eight threes on 23 attempts. Thomas hit three treys for the Bears in the contest.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Embry-Riddle (FL) shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Dreveon Scott led the way individually for the Bears with two rejections.
How It Happened
After falling behind 25-22, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 7:28 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Justin Harris, to take a 27-25 lead. The Bears then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-36.
Embry-Riddle (FL) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 86-67 advantage before Shaw went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Jermaine Vereen's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 86-73 with 1:10 to go in the contest. Embry-Riddle (FL) responded and outscored the Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 89-75. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 22 of its 39 total points.
