RALEIGH, NC - After a slow week with each team playing just one contest, both men's and women's basketball teams ramp up their schedules as they head into CIAA action with a week full of road contests that will provide a challenge for both squads .
Men's Basketball (3-2)
The Bears are coming off an impressive 81-78 road win over the University of Mt.Olive avenging last years defeat in Spaulding Gymnasium. The trio of
Shayne Siago, DJ Thomas and
Ahmil Flowers led Shaw to victory with Flowers leading the way in his Shaw debut with 22 points followed by Siago with 20 points while Thomas added 16 points. So far this season, Siago is averaging 14.6 ppg.
K.J. West leads the Bears in rebounds grabbing 5.8 per outing. As a team Shaw averages 73.2 ppg while allowing 68.4 on the defensive end.Â
Shaw will hit the road this week for four straight contest first facing CIAA foe Virginia State Tuesday evening at 6 PM in Petersburg, VA followed by their first ever trip to battle new CIAA member Bluefield State Thursday afternoon in a 4 PM showdown. Both contest can be viewed live on theÂ

Women's Basketball (4-3)
The Lady Bears saw their four game winning streak come to an end as they fell to the UMO Trojans 65-53 last Tuesday in Mt.Olive, NC. Before the defeat, Shaw had won it's previous four games by double-diglits with the smallest win being 13 points against Carolina University where Shaw led by as many as 25 points in the second half.Â
Alexis Radcliff leads the Lady Bears in both points and rebounds (15.7 ppg, 7.3 reb),
Mikyah Finley follows with 11 points while
Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes adds 9.6 points per game while collecting just under five rebounds. The Lady Bears average 72.9 points per game on offense while surrendering 55.7 points defensively.Â
Shaw will continue its road skid with a stop in Petersburg, VA to face Virginia State in their CIAA opener Monday evening. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm. The Lady Bears will then travel to Bluefield State to face the Big Blue at 2 PM on Thursday afternoon. Both games will be live on theÂ
