Avery Huggins Named First Team All-CIAA

RALEIGH, N.C.Shaw University senior forward Avery Huggins has been named First Team All-CIAA, the conference announced ahead of the 2026 CIAA Basketball Tournament.

Huggins delivered a dominant all-around campaign for the Bears, averaging 16.0 points per game, ranking eighth in the CIAA. He also averaged 6.6 rebounds per contest, sixth in the conference, while totaling 47 blocks, the fourth-highest mark in the league.

The Wilson, N.C. native shot an efficient 47.1 percent (148-of-314) from the field, including 33 three-pointers, while connecting on 72.9 percent (70-of-96) from the free throw line. He totaled 399 points and 166 rebounds across 725 minutes this season, adding 64 assists and 36 steals to anchor both ends of the floor.

Huggins recorded a season-high 31 points at Bluefield State on Dec. 13, shooting 13-of-23 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range. He posted multiple 20-point performances, including 25 points at Fayetteville State, 25 points at Livingstone, 24 points against Mount Olive, 24 points against Paine and 23 points versus Johnson C. Smith.

He also registered a season-high 12 rebounds at Livingstone on Feb. 18 and tallied 10 rebounds against Claflin. Huggins reached double figures in 20 games this season, showcasing consistency and versatility throughout conference play.
