RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw women's soccer team, fresh off winning its first-ever championship, is looking to bring home another trophy this weekend.
The Lady Bears (14-4-1 overall) are one of four teams competing in the USCAA Small College National Championship Tournament, which will be held Friday, Nov. 17, through Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Montour Junction Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pa. Shaw, seeded second, will play third-seeded Maine-Fort Kent (8-2-1 overall) on Friday at 12:45 p.m., the same time that top seed Bryant & Stratton Syracuse meets fourth seed Carlow.
Friday's losers will play in the third-place game on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 12:45 p.m. The championship game between Friday's winners will take place on Sunday. Nov. 19, at 6 p.m.
The Lady Bears enter the national tournament with momentum after capturing the NCAA DII Independent Title last Sunday. Shaw defeated Edward Waters 3-1 at Durham (N.C.) County Memorial Stadium for its first championship since the program started in 2017. The 14 wins are a season-high for the Lady Bears.
One of their wins came against Carlow during the regular season. The Lady Bears won the September matchup 5-0 in Durham, N.C. They also faced Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse, falling 1-0 on the road in October. This is their first meeting against Maine-New Kent this season.
