LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA --The Shaw men's basketball team got a 36-point showing from the bench, but fell 88-73 to the Lincoln (PA) Lions on the road Saturday.
The Bears (11-9, 4-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Caleb Simmons, who had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. Jeremiah Pope tacked on 13 points and two steals and Doriuntas Barnes chipped in as well with 12 points.
Simmons pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Shaw offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into 11 second chance points.
The Shaw defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 20 Lincoln (PA) turnovers. Those takeaways turned into nine points on the other end of the floor. Simmons' three steals led the way individually for the Bears.
How It Happened
Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 44-24 heading into halftime.
Shaw narrowed its deficit to 60-46 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Jason Robinson's three, to shrink the deficit to 60-51 with 10:20 to go in the contest. Lincoln (PA) responded and outscored the Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 88-73. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 24 of its 49 total points.
