Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University softball team dropped a pair of games against Alderson Broaddus Tuesday afternoon at Worthdale Park in their home opener of the season. The Lady Bears fell by scores of 10-2 followed by 12-2.

Game 1

The Battlers jumped on the board first scoring one run in the top of the first inning. The Lady Bears settled in to force three straight scoreless innings before Alderson Broaddus opened up the score with three runs in the top of the fifth followed by six in the seventh. The Lady Bears would avoid the shutout scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it would be too little too late as the Battlers took game one. Shaw was held to four hits in game one with singles coming from Destiny Beckham, Brianna Smith, Imani Burroughs, and Syhia Marks who was also credited with an RBI along with Regina DeDecker. 

Game 2

Shaw got off to a better start responding to two early runs from Alderson Broaddus to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Battlers after one complete. The visitors tacked on three more runs in the top half of the next inning forcing a Shaw pitching change. The switch paid off as the Battlers would collect just two runs over the four innings extended their lead to 7-2 after Shaw scored in the bottom of the fifth. Errors allowed the Battlers to add five runs in the final inning to come away with the 12-2 win completing the sweep. Shaw was credited with six errors during the contest allowing just four of the Battlers runs to be earned. 

The Lady Bears fall to 0-7 on the early season and return to action Sunday, March 13 as they travel to the University of Mount Olive. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm followed by 3 pm.
