Box Score 2 Raleigh, NC - Win number one of the Mercedes Hargett era finally went in the books Saturday evening as the Lady Bears closed out CIAA Round-Up play defeating crosstown rival St.Augustines 15-5 in six innings while falling to Claflin 7-0 and Fayetteville State 8-5 Sunday at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The Lady Bears scheduled contest against Livingstone was postponed due to roster issues with the Blue Bears and will be rescheduled at a later date.

The Lady Bears battled tough with one of the traditional top programs in the CIAA. After two scoreless innings, the Panthers were able to do enough damage to secure the win scoring all seven runs in the bottom of the third inning with the aid of a few errors. Shaw was able to spread out five hits during the game with singles from Destiny Beckham, Regina DeDecker, Shyia Marks, Brianna Smtih, and Nataya Truitt.

Shaw put together their best offensive output of the season grinding out 18 total hits. The Lady Bears were led at the plate by Truitt who went 4-5 at the plate with a team-leading four RBIs. Stacia Marks followed with three hits while Beckham, DeDecker, Sas'Kia Stephens added two hits. Every Shaw player in the lineup collected at least one hit. Dominique Brown picked up the win in the circle striking out four while allowing 10 hits.

The Lady Bears again jumped out to an early lead as they have almost all weekend scoring four runs in the third inning while adding another in the fourth. The Broncos would erase their deficit and gain the lead crossing the plate six times in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 6-5. FSU added single insurance runs in the fifth and sixth inning proving to be just enough to slide Shaw 8-5. FSU edged Shaw in the hits department 9-8 while Shaw committed two errors compared to just one by the Broncos.
Shaw returns to the diamond on Friday, April 1st as they host Virginia State in a CIAA double-header. First pitch is slated for 1 pm. at Worthdale Park.
