Box Score Winston-Salem, NC - The Shaw University softball team again showed promise and progress but eventually fell on the wrong end of a doubleheader defeat as they dropped two contests to Salem College 3-0 and 10-9 Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, NC.
Game 1
In a pretty evenly played first game, Salem scored single runs in the bottom of the first, second, and fourth for the only scoring for the game. The Lady Bears were limited to just four hits total with Syhyia Marks collecting two followed by Destiny Beckham and Brianna Smith each adding the other two. Both squads committed two errors but Shaw's would prove costly as two of the three runs by Salem were unearned due to those mistakes.
Game 2
Shaw was the clear aggressor from the beginning as the Lady Bears jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two complete. Salem would get two runs back in the bottom half of the third inning but Shaw responded to add runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go ahead 9-4 needing just six outs for their first win of the season. The Spirits put together their best offensive output of the day scoring five runs in the sixth to tie the game at 9-9 before scoring the game-winning run in the seventh on an error to complete the comeback win.
The Lady Bears return to action on Thursday, March 24 as they play Johnson C. Smith University in the opening game of the CIAA Round-Up being held in Raleigh, NC. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
