Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University men's basketball team will open their season on Friday November, 11 as they take on Davis and Elkins in the 2022 Earl Lloyd Classic held at West Virginia State University in Institute, WV.

The Bears
Shaw brings back a mixed roster of returners and newcomers. Returning from last years Bears squad that finished 10-11 overall are
Caleb Simmons (11 ppg),
Justus Baldwin (10.1) along with other contributors Gabe Joseph-Bryan,
Denari Garrett,
Jason Robinson and
Doriuntas Barnes. Key newcomers include
DJ Thomas,
Amir Waddell,
Jamari Roberts,
Jeremiah Pope and
Devonta Oliver.
On offense in 2021-22, the Bears averaged 69.4 ppg while allowing 69.1 ppg. Shaw shot 45% from the floor (535-1190) while connecting on 33.3% of their attempts from outside the arc (135-405). The Bears at time struggled from the charity stripe finishing the season at 66% (252-381). Shaw will also look to improve on it's rebound margin as the Bears averaged 33.4 rebounds per outing while allowing their opponents to 33.9 per game.
The Bears are led by second year head coach
Bobby Collins along with associate head coach
Ken Spencer and assistant coaches Whykevin Bazemore and Jawnan Baker.
The Senators
Davis and Elkins enters the contest coming off an 8-21 season in 2021-22. The Senators closed out the season winning two of their last three contest before falling in the first round of the MEC Tournament. D&E on the year averaged 75 ppg while allowing 83.4 ppg. Returning for the Senators is leading scorers Sam Rolle IV and Breland Walton who scorched the nets for 21.1 ppg and 17 ppg.
