Lady Bears Shut Out Edward Waters In Soccer On Senior Day

Box Score 1 DURHAM, N.C. (Oct. 29) – Shaw University relied on a balanced offense to blank Edward Waters 6-0 in women's soccer on Senior Day at Durham County Memorial Stadium Saturday.

Six different players scored for the Lady Bears, who led 4-0 at halftime. The Lady Bears wasted no time taking control as Ana Schardong scored five minutes into the match on an assist by Thea Schillaci. Schardong later assisted on Reid Cobb-Phillips' goal for a 2-0 lead.

Sina Kummerow and Matilde Strocchi also scored in the first half with Victoria Hines assisting on Strocchi's goal. Yasmine Burrell and Laura Di Mascio each made a goal in the second half to close out the scoring.

The Lady Bears dominated offensively, outshooting Edward Waters 20-5. Shaw goalie Paige Gilis finished with three saves.

After the match, five seniors – Schardong, Cobb-Phillips, Hannah Durante, Thalita Faria and Audrey Taylor – were honored along with 10 Shaw men's soccer players during the Senior Day ceremony.

The Lady Bears were scheduled to play a second game Saturday but won on forfeit instead when Regent failed to show. They conclude the regular season Wednesday, Nov. 2, against Salem at WRAL Soccer Park in Raleigh, N.C.
