The Shaw Bears
Shaw (5-5, 1-3 CIAA) looks to extend their winning ways as the Bears ended a season-long three-game losing skid defeating Elizabeth City State University 75-65 last Saturday at home in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The win was the first CIAA victory for the Bears on the season before dropping their first three contest. Saturday's contest was just the second for the Bears in a span of 29 days. Shaw shot a season-high 57% from the floor including 47 % from beyond the arc. Nakwan Kitchens provided a spark off the bench finishing with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Justus Baldwin followed with 14 points while Brandon Faison and Corey Rutherford added 13 points each. The Bears now carry both the seventh-ranked offense and defense in the CIAA.
The Trojans
VSU (5-8, 2-4 CIAA) returns home for their second straight contest after dropping an 88-70 decision to rival Virginia Union University last Saturday. The Trojans have alternated wins and losses in their last four contest. BJ Fitzgerald leads VSU on offense at 17.7 ppg followed by Terrance Hunter-Whitfield with 13.2 ppg who also paces the Trojans with 6.2 rebounds per outing. VSU averages 71.7 ppg ranking fifth overall in the CIAA while allowing an average of 78 ppg.
