Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University men's basketball team will play their first home game in a month and just their second game in 28 days as they host Elizabeth City State University in their CIAA division opener Saturday, January 15, 2022.

Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The matchup can be viewed here on the Shaw Bears Sports Network with Donal Ware and Daimeon Banks providing play-by-play and color commentary. 

Due to the ongoing pandemic and the capacity of C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium, Shaw University Athletics has limited attendance for the upcoming home schedule to the first 100 current Shaw students with valid ID, game staff, and two guests per Shaw player. Game updates will be provided on all Shaw University Athletic social media outlets. 

Shaw (4-5, 0-3 CIAA) will look to end a season-long three-game losing streak after dropping their most recent contest to Winston-Salem State University 81-66 last Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC. The Bears saw a tight contest slip away after a run from the Rams built a double-digit deficit that the Bears were unable to overcome. Freshman Caleb Simmons continues to pace the Shaw offense averaging 13.6 ppg along with a team-leading 7 rebounds per contest. Justus Baldwin follows with 8.9 ppg. The Bears collectively average just over 70 ppg. 

ECSU (10-6, 3-2 CIAA) makes the trip to Raleigh also following a loss to WSSU on Monday, January 10 by a 56-54 final score. The Vikings held a one-point lead late but saw WSSU connect on a late three-point basket to go ahead by two. ECSU's last-second shot was off allowing WSSU to escape with the two-point win. Zaccheus Hobbs leads the Vikings in scoring at 16.2 ppg. ECSU as a team averages 66.8 ppg while allowing 62.7 ppg. The Vikings are led by veteran head coach Shawn Walker.
