Box Score Orangeburg, SC - The Shaw University women's soccer team scored twice in the first half then held off a late push to earn their first victory on the season 2-1 over Division 1 SC. State Wednesday evening inside Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. 
 
With the win Shaw improves to 1-1 overall on the early season while the Bulldogs fall to 0-5 overall.
 
Shaw got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal from Victoria Hines in the 27th minute. The Lady Bears offensive pressure continued with the Lady Bears cashing in just 11 minutes later with a goal from Jayana Nicholson from the middle of the field assited by Breslyn Studebaker pushing the Shaw lead to 2-0 heading into halftime. 
 
SC State finally connected on a scoring chance with a goal from Faith Sparks in the 75th minute finishing off a corner kick situation. The Lady Bears were able to ice the rest of the game clock to secure their first win of the 2021 season.
 
Shaw outshot SC State 15-10 on the match. Maude Rouanet started in the net for the Lady Bears collecting four saves on five shots on goal. 
 
Shaw returns to action Saturday, September 11 as they travel to Wingate University. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
