Men's Soccer Falls to UMO 3-1

Mt Olive, NC – A slow start on offense led to a deep and early hole that the Bears were unable to climb out of as the Shaw University men's soccer team fell on the road to the University of Mount Olive 3-1 on Wednesday evening at Amon Field in Mt. Olive, NC.

With the loss, the Bears record drops to 2-4 overall. The Trojans improve to 6-4 with the win.

How It Happened

  • UMO broke the scoreless tie in the first 10 minutes with a goal from Alfie Pope at the 9:49 mark.
  • After leading by just one at the break, the Trojans padded their lead in the 52nd minute with an unassisted strike from Guilherme Siqueira.
  • The Trojans added an insurance goal just eight minutes later as Christian Jaimes scored in the 60th minute.
  • Wissem Obeid kept the Bears away from the shutout receiving a pass from Justus Purnell in the 82nd minute finding the back of the net making the score 3-1 in favor of the host.
