Box Score Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University volleyball team returned to C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium for just the second time this season but came away with an important Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division victory sweeping the Virginia Union University Panthers 3-0 Monday night in Raleigh.
With the win, Shaw improves to 3-3 overall and now sits at 2-0 in CIAA action. VUU drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

- Mallory Brown had her best match in a Bears uniform finishing with a match-high 16 kills. Noelani Beard followed with 9 kills on the night.
- The Lady Bears were able to overcome a rough serving match with 16 service errors but finished with a .161 hitting percentage.
- Breelyn Clark finished with a season-high 36 assists topping a previous high of 33 against UMO on September 14.
- Jessica Kelley paced the Lady Bears with 13 digs and four service aces.
- Amilex Ayala-Lopez led VUU with 11 kills. The Panthers were held to a .082 hitting percentage.
How It Happened
- Things remained close throughout the first set as VUU tied the first set at 9-9 before Shaw pulled away for a 13-9 lead. Shaw later saw a 23-18 lead slip away before scoring the last two points of the set for the 25-23 win.
- VUU jumped out to a 7-4 early lead before a 7-0 Lady Bears run put Shaw ahead 11-7. Shaw remained in control the rest of the set with leads of 21-16 before closing out the set 25-22 to go ahead 2-0.
- The Panthers again jumped out to an early lead at 5-2 before a Shaw rally tied the set at 9-9. A 6-2 Lady Bear run put Shaw ahead 15-11 before VUU followed with a run of their own to trim the Shaw lead to 20-18. The Lady Bears put their foot on the gas to close out the match outscoring VUU 5-3 for the 25-21 third set win completing the sweep.

Shaw heads to Winston Salem, NC for the first CIAA Round-Up of the season on October 2-3. The Lady Bears will take on Johnson C. Smith on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by Claflin and Winston-Salem State on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
