Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 bout on the road against the University of Mount Olive Trojans Thursday night at Amon Field in Mt. Olive, NC.
The contest was the season opener for both squads with Shaw fallen to 0-1 on the early season while the Trojans now sit at 1-0.
Things started well for the Lady Bears as Laura Tonkin got Shaw on the board first in the 9th minute with an unassisted goal. The momentum then shifted over to UMO as they answered with two goals before the half at the 20:10 and 42:38 mark.
The Trojans went on to increase their lead with two goals in the second half just five minutes apart with 71:34 on the clock and then 76:09 cruising to a 4-1 win.
UMO outshot Shaw 11-3 during the contest with two of those three shots by Shaw being on goal. Maude Rouanet manned the net for the Lady Bears and was credited with three saves.
Shaw returns to action Wednesday September 8th as the Lady Bears travel to Orangeburg, SC to face Division 1 South Carolina State. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
