Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team (1-4-1) claimed a 3-1 road victory against Southern Wesleyan University Wednesday from Childs Field. The win is the Lady Bears first of the season as SU was able to snap a four-game losing skid to improve to 1-4-1 overall.
In the first 1:17 of play, the Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead after senior Katherine Inhoof (Virginia Gardens, FL) found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Anais Stephany (Sallanches, France). The goal was Inhoof's first of the season. The Warriors (1-5) would even the score at the 24' before going into the break knotted at one apiece.
SU regained the lead in the second half when junior Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) scored one of two goals at the 65'. SWU tallied three shots down the stretch but the Warriors had no answer for Curry who secured the Lady Bears' win with her second goal of the tilt at the 87'.
Shaw combined for 14 total shots, including 10 on goal led by Stephany and Curry accounted for four shots apiece. In the net, senior Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) recorded six saves for the Lady Bears as SWU registered 14 total shots and seven on goal.
Up next, Shaw will travel to Mount Olive on Mar. 31 for a matchup with the Trojans at 7 p.m.
