LADY BEARS FALL AT NEWBERRY, 2-0

Box Score

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Newberry College on the road on Saturday afternoon at the Smithfield Complex.

With the loss, Shaw drops to 0-4 on the year while the Wolves improve to 2-0 on the season.

For the contest, the Lady Bears tallied four shots and four on goal, but the Wolves were able to secure 14 total shots and seven on goal.

Newberry scored the game's first goal during the first 1:04 of action as Shaw faced a 1-0 deficit early on. Unfortunately, the Lady Bears offense was limited to just three shots the entire first half as the SU went into the break down by one.

In the second half, Newberry's Jaidyn Jacobs scored again at the 62' to extend the Wolves lead 2-0 over Shaw. Still, the Lady Bears could not find a groove offensively, accounting for just one shot in the second half that ultimately led to the setback.

Senior goalkeeper Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) played all 90:00, collecting five saves.

The Lady Bears will return to action on Wednesday, Fe. 24 at Converse. The matchup will begin at 7 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
