Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team battled against Chowan University on Monday afternoon but ultimately fell to the Hawks 2-0 at the WRAL Soccer Park.
The Lady Bears fall to 0-3 on the season while Chowan improves to 1-0 on the year.
In the opening half, both teams had a couple of good opportunities as SU had two very close breaks to score late in the first half that featured two headers from senior Katherine Inhoof (Virginia Gardens, FL) but the second went just wide with the game going deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime.
Chowan scored the game's first goal at the 50th minute and then again at the 88th minute as Shaw tried to create more opportunities throughout the stanza, but the Lady Bears couldn't get past the stingy Hawks defense.
Shaw finished with a 15-4 disadvantage in shots but SU held a 9-2 ratio in saves against the Hawks.
Senior goalkeeper Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) played the entire 90 minutes, capturing nine saves including five in the second frame.
