A SLOW START HAUNTS SHAW DURING A TOUGH ROAD TEST AT DI CAMPBELL

Written by Parker Hill (Intern)

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Shaw University's men's soccer team fought hard to overcome an early two-goal deficit at Campbell University but were unable to get back into the game as the Bears fell 2-0 to the Camels Monday night from the Eakes Complex.

After conceding two early goals, the Bears defense kept their composure and showed an aggressive edge to keep the game competitive. Unfortunately, the Camels (1-0) dominated the possession of the ball and used that to their advantage to tire out the Bears' counter-threat.

Most notably for Shaw was starting goalkeeper freshman Juan Ramirez (Fort Myers, FL) who had a great performance and totaled 11 saves off 23 shots created by the Camels.

Unfortunately, the Bears struggled on the field offensively and were unable to pose a threat to the Camels' defense. The team only logged three shots with none reaching the target and forced only one corner kick all game.

Shaw (0-1-1) are still looking for their first win of the season. This test against an NCAA Division I program should help prepare the team for their upcoming home match on Wednesday, Feb.17 as the Bears will play host to Chowan University at 1:30 p.m. from the WRAL Soccer Park.
