Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University men's basketball team returns to action after a brief break for final exams for their CIAA opener Thursday night as they host the Claflin University Panthers.
Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The game can be viewed live via purchase on the Shaw Bears Sports Network with Donal Ware and Daimeon Banks on the call.
Shaw (4-2) enters the matchup fresh off a 71-67 hard-fought victory over Paine College on November 30 in Raleigh, NC. The Bears battled back after trailing by double digits in the first half to take control in the second half to secure the non-conference victory. Caleb Simmons leads the Bears averaging 15.2 ppg along with 7.2 rebounds per outing. Justus Baldwin follows with 10.2 ppg. As a team, Shaw averages 76.3 points per contest.
Claflin (1-6) enters conference play on a current four-game losing skid most recently falling to Benedict College 69-54 last Saturday in Orangeburg, SC. The Panther lone win on the season was a dominating 80-59 win over Voorhees on November 20. Claflin is coached by former Shaw University assistant coach Dr. Ricky Jackson.
