RALEIGH, N.C. – A goal in the 86th minute was the deciding factor as the Shaw University men's soccer team fell to Piedmont International University 2-1 Monday, Oct. 14. at the BB&T Soccer Park in Advance, N.C.

Shaw got the offense going early as sophomore Marc Almazor (Brooklyn, NY) scored the Bears first goal for the second straight match in the 10th minute. Piedmont International scored the equalizer just before the half in the 44th minute making the score 1-1 at the break.

A defensive battle ensued during the second half as neither side could break the 1-1 tie. With overtime approaching, the Bruins found pay dirt beating the Shaw defense in the 86th minute to go ahead 2-1. The Bears put one last shot on goal with less than a minute remaining but were denied by the Piedmont International keeper.

The Bruins finished the match with a 15-12  total shot advantage over the Bears with both teams recording five each in the final stanza. Shaw edged Piedmont International in corner kicks 7-4.

Shaw falls to 2-7-2 overall on the season while Piedmont International improves to 7-4-2. The Bears return to action Wednesday Oct.16 as they host Southern Wesleyan at the MAC Sports and Entertainment Complex. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
