Shaw Men’s Soccer Falls on the Road at Newberry

Newberry, S.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team was unable to overcome a potent Newberry attack on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6–0 at the Smith Road Complex.

The Wolves struck twice in the opening half, building a 2–0 advantage behind goals from Alex Lopez in the 17th minute and Ben Curtis in the 32nd. Despite generating four first-half shots and earning four corner kicks, the Bears could not break through the Newberry defense.

The second half saw the hosts extend their lead with four unanswered tallies. Jacob Davis opened the frame with a strike in the 47th minute, followed by a pair of goals from Joel Martins in the 70th and 76th minutes. Brody Beckwith capped the scoring less than two minutes later.

Shaw finished with nine shots, including two on target, led by efforts from Marquis Rosado and Alessandro Kelly. Goalkeepers Joel Goerner Tellez and Jayden Young combined for three saves on the afternoon.

With the result, Shaw moves to 1-3-1 overall. The Bears will look to regroup when they return to action on Friday, September 26, as they host Louisburg College at 1:30 p.m. at WRAL Soccer Complex Field 1.
