FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team turned in a gritty defensive performance Wednesday evening, earning a 0-0 draw on the road against Methodist University at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

Goalkeeper Joel Goerner Tellez was the story of the night for the Bears, recording a career-high 14 saves to keep the Monarchs off the board. Methodist outshot Shaw 23-2, but Goerner Tellez stood tall between the posts, stopping chance after chance to preserve his first shutout of the season.

Shaw managed a pair of attempts on the evening, one from Tanas Thorne in the first half and another from Juan Guerra in the second, but the Monarch defense held firm. The Bears' back line, anchored by Ismael Khiyati Azzouzi, Genaro Kaba, and Marquis Rosado, weathered 10 Methodist corner kicks and limited clean looks at goal despite constant pressure.

The draw moves Shaw to 1-2-1 overall, while Methodist shifts to 3-2-3.
