Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Teffie-Ann Brown (Kingstown, St Vincent) scored in the 39th minute for the Shaw University women's soccer team but they fell, 4-1, to the Queens (N.C.) University on Saturday afternoon.

The Royals scored the game's first goal at the 18th minute of the contest but the Lady Bears was able to respond thanks to a pass from sophomore Jasa Curry (Ellicott City, MD) to Browne for the equalizer and 1-1 frame leading into intermission.

At the half, the Lady Bears accounted for just two shots compared to Queens (N.C.) eight but Shaw defense was able to keep the game alive thanks to five saves from senior Caylie Hartman (Commerce City, CO) at the goalkeeper position all in the first frame.

The Royals outshot the Lady Bears by double digits in the second half as the Lady Bears again combined for just two shots compared to Queens (N.C.) 12. The Royals tacked on three goals at the 45th minute, 67th minute and 72 minute as the Lady Bears offensive rhythm vanished.

Hartman finished with eight saves on the day in 90 minutes of action while four different Lady Bears registered one shot in the setback.

The loss dips the Lady Bears overall record to 4-7 while the Royals improve to 8-4-1 on the season. Shaw will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with a home contest against Southern Wesleyan. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at the MAC.
