BEARS SNAP A SEVEN-GAME SKID WITH 87-70 WIN OVER LINCOLN (PA)

RALEIGH, N.C. – In a complete team effort, the Shaw University men's basketball team was able to snap a seven-game losing skid with an 87-70 win over Lincoln (Pa.) University in front a packed C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Monday night in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action.

Shaw improves to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in CIAA action while Lincoln (Pa.) dips to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in league standings.

Sophomore Alex Owens (Brandenton, FL) registered a career high of 25 points and 15 rebounds while junior Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) hauled in 23 points (14-of-14 shooting from the free throw line) and eight assists. Freshman Geremy Taylor (Pompano Beach, FL) chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists while junior Davon Dillard (Gary, IN) added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in the winning effort.

The Bears used an 11-6 run to open the first half capped off by a 3-pointer from Dillard. LUPA then took a lead after using an 8-2 spurt but the lead would change three more times before a 3-pointer from sophomore Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) ignited an 18-14 scoring margin for a 39-36 lead for Shaw at halftime.

In the second half, the game featured three ties but a layup from Taylor at the 15:50 mark eventually led to a 16-point stand for Shaw after producing a 24-8 spread. The Lions cut the Bears lead to 10 points (67-57) on a free throw shot but Shaw ballooned to a 20-point lead in which the Bears would sustain at least 17-point lead for the remainder of the way.

Deaquan Williams led LUPA with 16 points and seven rebounds while Cameron Campbell and Zahrion Blue both contributed 11 points each.

Shaw will return to action Saturday, Jan. 19 with a home contest against Bluefield State College in a nonconference tilt. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Spaulding.
