Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Shaw University men's soccer dropped its season opener on Thursday to Chowan University with a score of 5-1.
Chowan took the first punch with a Trevin Myers goal from Mitchell Levi Lewis at the 20:28 mark. The Bears would respond thanks to a penalty kick from senior Thilo Wilke (Karlstadt, Germany) with 34:08 on the clock to even the score at halftime.
In the second half, Myers scored his second goal of the game at the 55:45 mark which led to the Hawks going on a 4-0 run. The Bears showed fight but the in the end it would be all Chowan as the Hawks scored three more goals down the stretch in that 4-0 run to secure the win over Shaw.
For the contest, Shaw tallied 10 saves from goalkeeper Theo Delaleu (Les Essarts Le Roi, France) but the Bears saw a disadvantage in total shots as the Hawks outshot Shaw, 18-9 and an 8-5 ratio in corner kicks.
The Bears will look to bounce back with its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 2 versus West Liberty at the MAC. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. The MAC is located on 8924 Midway West Rd, Raleigh, NC 27617.
