BEARS SOCCER EARNS 1-1 DRAW WITH PFEIFFER

GREENSBORO, N.C. -  The Shaw University men's soccer team found itself in a tight, hard-fought battle against the Falcons of Pfeiffer University Thursday evening at Ne Lefko Field, and wound up with a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes. The Bears fell behind late in second half, but mounted a stirring comeback to tie the score after a penalty kick from freshman Steven Leigh (Golborne, Manchester).

 

Both teams had chances in the second overtime period but neither squad could find the net, sending the match to a draw.

 

For the contest, Shaw (4-5-2) tallied 11 shots and five on goal while Pfeiffer (4-5-1) fired 18 shots and 11 on goal. Freshman Santiago Farre (Barcelona, Spain) finished with 11 saves on the evening. Leigh had three shots and put two on target, while junior Thilo Wilke (Karlstadt, Germany) unleashed four total shots and one goal. Freshman Charles Showers (New Carrollton, MD) finished with three shots and one on goal.

 

The Bears will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Barton College for a nonconference tilt. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
