Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C.  – CIAA Newcomer of the Week, David Madol (Manchester, NH) poured 28 points to lead the Bears to a 95-90 victory against Fayetteville State University in Spaulding Gymnasium for Senior Day. The win puts Shaw in a third place standing in the Southern Division, while Fayetteville State drops to sixth place as of tonight.

Madol also grabbed seven rebounds, while Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) notched 18 points and Joell Hopkins, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) added 14 points and nine rebounds. Jamar Cooper finished with 11 points, while dishing out nine assists for Shaw.

Shaw (12-15, 9-6 CIAA) opened up the contest with a 16-8 lead over the Broncos (11-14, 5-10 CIAA), including four 3-pointers from Richardson, II and Madol who both charted two apiece.

The Bears built their largest the lead of the half at 14-points after an 8-5 run midway through the half. Shaw controlled the pace for most of the first half but FSU carved into the Bears lead four times, with the last at the 2:42 mark.

Led by a 3-pointer from Isaiah Vinson, the Broncos ignited a 6-2 run for FSU but two free-throws by Cooper stretched the Bears lead back up to nine points. The Bears would lead 48-42 at halftime after the Xavier Robinson drained a 3-pointer for the Broncos.

The Bears shot 51-percent (15-29) in the first half, compared to FSU's 45-percent (16-35). Richardson, II led all scorers at the break with 16 points, followed by Madol with 12 points for Shaw.

Shaw maintained their lead most of the second half, despite the Broncos efforts to cut the lead down the stretch. FSU got within one-point at the 7:48 mark after a 3-pointer from Vinson but that would be the closest the Bears allowed the Broncos to get as Madol drained a 3-pointer to extend Shaw's lead. The Bears would not relent the lead for the remainder of the contest to secure the win.

Michael Tyson tallied 20 points to lead FSU in scoring, while Robinson added 15 points and both Joshua Dawson and Vinson charted 13 points each. William Tibbs and Juwan Addison contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Bears will conclude the regular season when they travel to Charlotte, NC to face Johnson C. Smith University for a tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m.
