Box Score LINCOLN, Pa. – Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) had a season-high 32 points to lead the Shaw University men's basketball team to an 88-61 victory over Lincoln University in CIAA action on Monday night. Tonight's win is the third-straight win for the Bears as they improve to 7-10 overall and 4-1 in the league standings.
John Savoy (Temple Hills, MD) added 18 points and seven rebounds, while David Madol (Manchester, NH) netted 16 points and eight rebounds. Orchestrating the offense for the Bears was Jamar Cooper (Petersburg, VA) who handed out a career-high 16 assists and six rebounds in the win.
The Lions (5-11, 3-3 CIAA) opened up the contest with a 7-2 lead at the 18:43 mark but the Bears came pouncing back with a 20-0 run sparked by Richardson, II's hot shooting midway through the half. Shaw would build a 23-point lead as they went into the locker room with a 53-30 lead.
Richardson, II had 20 points at halftime, including four 3-pointers and 7-of-11 from the field. Shaw's 26-10 dominance in the paint and 15-4 in fast break points led to the Bears shooting a season-high 6 7.7 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from behind the arc and 100 percent from the charity stripe.
The second half was more of a mimic of the first half as Shaw built their largest lead of the game at 33 points with 2:00 left to play. The Lions got within 14 points on several occasions but that would be the closest they would get the entire second half as the Bears cruised to their third-straight conference victory.
Jordan Watson led LU in scoring with 16 points, followed by Quaman Burton and Antonio Depina with 10 point each.
Shaw will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 16th when they travel to Salisbury, NC to face Livingstone College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
