Box Score 2 RALEIGH, NC - The Shaw Women's Softball team played their final home game on April 14 at Worthdale Park in a conference double-header against Livingstone College. The Lady Bears won both games improving their record to 6-22 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Shaw started the first game strong, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Renee Holmes, Brittany Kline, and Shanice Anderson all scored one run each for the Lady Bears. Chakiryan Jackson, Shanice Anderson, and Ladazia Burris all picked up one RBI in the first inning. Livingstone scored one run at the top of the second to bring the score to 3-1. Neither the the Lady Bears or the Lady Bluebears were able to score a run in the third or fourth innings. At the top of the fifth inning Livingstone scored a run on a wild pitch. During the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Bears answered with two runs of their own coming from Shanice Anderson and Jamel Manley. Ladazia Burris and Shai Bease picked up an RBI each. Shaw held off Livingstone in the final two innings and would win the game with a final score of 5-2.
Carrying momentum from the first game, Shaw opened the second game with two runs scored in the first inning. On a wild pitch thrown by Livingstone, Renee Holmes scores a run and Brittany Kline walked home. With one runner on third base, Francis Perry singled to left center picking up a RBI as Chakiryan Jackson scored for the Lady Bears. Shaw continued their batting success in the second inning scoring two runs as well. Briana Bease picked up a RBI and one run in the second inning. Joi Davis added another run for the Lady Bears and Brittnay Kline picked up a RBI during the inning as well.
Shaw turned up the heat in the third inning scoring six runs. With bases loaded Briana Bease singled down the left line picking up a RBI as Perry scored the run. Holmes was next up to the plate with bases loaded as well and walked while Shai Bease walked home. Bases were still loaded with only one out for the Lady Bears, Brirttany Kline stepped up to plate and singled to the right side picking up two RBIs. Both Burris and Briana Bease scored one run each off of Kline's hit. With bases loaded again and Anderson flies out to the right field scoring Holmes. The last run of the inning came from Kline as Perry singled to left center getting another RBI. Shaw's six runs in the third inning ended with a score of 10-0.
Livingstone responded with one run in the top of the fourth inning. The one run would not be enough as they would not score in the remainder of the game. The Lady Bears ended the game with a final score of 10-1.
Shaw University will be back in action when they face cross-town rival Saint Augustine's University. The first game is set to start at 1 PM followed by the second game at 3 PM.
