RALEIGH, NC - The Shaw University men's basketball team got 26 points from Larry Richardson to lift the Bears past the Panthers 79-60 in a contest played Saturday afternoon at Shaw's C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

Richardson earned his 26 points on a eight for 16 shooting night, including four of nine from beyond the arc.  He also hit a strong six of six from the free throw line.

The win lifts Shaw to an 8-6 mark overall, 3-1 in the conference. Virginia Union drops to 4-11, 0-4 in the CIAA.

The Panthers shot 39.6 percent of their shots and the Bears making 47.4 percent of theirs.  The Bears had a solid advantage on the boards, pulling in 43 rebounds, compared to 29 for Virginia Union.  That advantage led to Shaw scoring 14 second-chance points, while Virginia Union had 11.

In addition to Richardson's 26 points, Jamar Cooper accumulated 19 points and seven assists. Koron Reed recorded a double-double with d11 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Reid netted 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. DeAaron Ward hauled in a total of eight rebounds in Shaw's victory.

Only two panthers managed to score double figures, led by Avery Jirmnson with 15 and Karo Adjekughele with 13.  Adjekughele's six rebounds led the Panthers.

The Bears return to action Saturday when they host Bowie State University, with tipoff at 4:00pm.
