Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Shaw University softball team split a key divisional doubleheader with Johnson C. Smith Sunday afternoon at Biddleville Park, claiming the first game 7-2 before falling 5-2 in the second contest.

With the day's games, Shaw's record now stands to 4-20 on the season, but is 3-4 in the CIAA's Southern Division.  Johnson C. Smith is now 11-17 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Division.

The Lady Bears used a four-run sixth inning to break open what had been a 3-2 lead, largely on the back of a Renee Holmes triple that drove home two runs.

Shanice Anderson powered the Lady Bears from the pitcher's circle and at bat as she held the Lady Golden Bulls to only two runs, while getting two hits of her own.  Chelsea Holliday scored two runs and both Holmes and Jolene Arroyo drove in two runs each.

In the second game, Kemesha Braithewaite and Holliday drove in the two Lady Bear runs, as Anderson pitched the second half of the doubleheader, giving up four earned runs in six innings pitched.

Shaw returns to action Monday when they host cross-town rival Saint Augustine's at Worthdale Park (entrance on Sunnybrook Road).  First pitch for the doubleheader is 2:00 p.m.
