Box Score BLUEFIELD, VA- The Shaw University men's basketball team defeated Bluefield College in the second day of the Ramey Carr Classic on Saturday evening with a 75-63 victory. The Bears improve to 4-3 on the season with the win.
The Bears shot 54% from the floor in the contest while holding Bluefield to a mere 35% shooting rate.
Five players scored double-digit points for Shaw in the win. Larry Richardson led the Bears with 17 points (four three-pointers), while John Savoy tallied 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Jamar Cooper, Joe Reid and Koron Reed added 11 points apiece in the win.
Bluefield's Zeke Williams led all scorers with 20 points, while Kyle Grisby chipped in 11 points. Alonzo Howard hauled in eight rebounds for the Rams in the defeat.
The Rams took control from the start with two free throws from Williams. A few minutes later Shaw would take the lead with a jump shot from Savoy. Bluefield would answer with a jump shot of their own to gain a one-point lead.
A dunk followed by a three-pointer from Richardson at the 12:34 mark would put the Bears back in the lead. Shaw took a 33-28 advantage heading into halftime.
The Bears held a narrow advantage a majority of the second half of play. It wasn't until two free throw shots from DeAron Ward at the 3:16 mark, that Shaw would take an eleven point lead (39-28).
The Bears maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest, securing the 75-63 win with a dunk by Savoy.
The Bears return to action on December 13th when they host Washington Adventist at 7:00pm.
