SALISBURY, N.C. - The Shaw softball team split a pair of games at Livingstone Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Bears dropped the first half of the twinbill 12-7 and rebounded for a 10-1 victory in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Lady Bears played a strong contest, with the exception of the bottom of the fourth. Up 6-0, the Lady Bears defense and pitching fell apart, giving up ten runs on only two hits. The rest of the runs scored on errors, walks, passed balls and wild pitches.
Shaw rebounded for another run, but gave up another two to put the final score at 12-7.
In game one, Sheniqua Fahie had a three-run triple. Kemesha Braithewaite was 2 for 2 with two RBI and a walk. Courtnee Kelly went 2 for 4 and had one RBI.
In the second game, it was all Shaw as the Lady Bears took advantage of three Lady Blue Bears errors and combined them with 11 hits to grab a 10-1 win over Livingstone.
Livingstone broke on top early, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but both pitchers found their footing, with neither team reaching the scoreboard until the top of the fourth when, with the bases loaded, Keshma James slammed a double into right field, driving in three runs and giving the Lady Bears a lead they would never relinquish.
The Lady Bears would add another seven runs in the top of the sixth, with two coming in on Daniela Archibold's triple to left center that plated two runs.
Kelly had another strong outing, going 3 for 4 and scoring twice. Fahie went 2 for 4 and had one RBI. James finished the game with five RBI on a hit and a walk.
